Danielle Sorsby - Marketing Campaigns Manager

Introducing Danielle..

Having started my career working in the music industry, you might wonder how I’ve ended up in the quaint, serene settings of the Peaks. Originally from Chesterfield, I lived in the bustling city of Nottingham for eight years having moved to study there but eventually decided it was time to come home. I joined Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire in summer 2017, just in time to head up some exciting international projects.

In my role as Marketing Campaigns Manager, I oversee the planning and output for a number of campaigns that look to encourage both the international and the UK market to visit and stay in the Peak District and Derbyshire.

My job, as with all of our jobs, is to get the rest of the world to love this charming area as much as we do. I look into new and unique ways in how to market the area, standing out from other destinations, just like the Peak District does naturally.

Having lived on the edge of the Peak District up until university, I was lucky enough to have grown up visiting the area most weekends. When I was 11 I went on an adventure holiday with the rest of my year and took part in activities such as stream scrambling, abseiling and caving. I knew there and then how lucky we were to have this vast, outdoor playground right on our doorstep.

Places like Curbar, Chatsworth and Eyam are my favourites and my family history with the Peak District is quite something! My Grandparents got engaged at Surprise View, my parents got engaged in a pub at Hope Valley and my Dad and Uncles took part in some prestigious cycling races here in their more sprightly days.

What I love the most is that round every corner and twist and turn there is a story to be told and new ones to be made. Travelling through the area is like travelling back in time – there’s history here from every era!

These days, I spend most weekends in Matlock watching my Brother-in-Law play for the local football team. We arrive early, head into the town for a hot roast cob and a mooch around the shops, then make our way into the ground to cheer on the team. To round off the perfect Saturday, we’ll head to one of the pubs for a cosy evening trying a range of local ales. Bliss!
