Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire set sights on Chinese travellers

Midlands Engine China Trade Mission

The end of October marked a watershed moment in the history of Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire when Marketing Peak Distict & Derbyshire Managing Director, Jo Dilley, attended a trade mission with the D2 LEP as part of a wider Midlands Engine Trade Delegation. A 70+ Midlands Engine for Growth delegation led by Sir John Peace first visited Shanghai before the D2 delegation made their way to Anhui Province, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the province and Derbyshire County Council, and to Hefei who have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the city of Derby.

Forging a relationship with a country that has the world's largest economy makes sense, and with uncertainty currently surrounding what kind of trade deal the UK can broker with the EU, it is also prudent to look to build bridges with economies outside of Europe.

Upon firming up the relationship the long-term hope is that thousands of jobs will be created in the region through the partnership, providing a boost of investment to both trade and tourism.

The hope is that Hefei and Anhui companies expanding globally might want to base factory operations in and around Derby and Derbyshire in the same way as Toyota has at Burnaston.
